The Birkenstock women’s sandals have gained a reputation for their cork sole that moulds to the foot over time. Strap sandals, clogs, and mules can be worn from the city to holiday. Here you will find the women’s models from the German brand, along with our tips for choosing the right size.
The German brand dates back to 1774. Its principle lies in an anatomical insole, the Fussbett, made of cork and latex covered with suede, which molds to the shape of your foot.
In the first few days, it feels firm. After a few outings, it has taken on the imprint of your foot.
The brand offers its models in leather, suede, and EVA, a lighter version that is water-resistant, perfect for the beach and pool.
The Arizona is open and adjusts with two straps: the perfect pair for nice days, easy to slip on and allows your foot to breathe.
The Boston covers the front of the foot and fits more securely. Worn with socks, it extends the Birkenstock season into winter. For a single pair to wear all year round, it covers more seasons than the Arizona.
Birkenstock only makes whole sizes, with no half sizes. If you are between sizes, the brand recommends going for the larger size, as your feet may swell slightly during the day.
Your toes should have a few millimeters of space in front and your heel should not touch the edge of the insole.
Some models come in two widths: Regular, which is quite generous, and Narrow, for slim feet. Check the width indicated on the product sheet before ordering.
Cork doesn’t like standing water: wipe the leather or suede models with a slightly damp cloth and let them air dry, away from a heater. The EVA versions can be rinsed with clean water.

They fit pretty normally, but without half sizes. If you're between two sizes, take the larger one, as advised by the brand.
The insole is firm for the first few days, while it molds to your foot. Start by wearing them for a few hours, then gradually increase the time.
Closed models like the Boston can be worn in mid-season and winter, with socks. Open sandals are best saved for nice days.
